Federal judges are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate through the advice-and-consent process. After hearings and scrutiny, the Senate votes, and a majority is needed to confirm. This setup gives the Senate a check on presidential appointments. The Supreme Court does not perform confirmations, and the Attorney General does not confirm nominees.
